Housemate wanted to rent or lease main / top level; ~ 1,600 sq. ft + shared space-- owner lives "downstairs".
Great opportunity for right person (couples will also be considered).. It is a share instead of a duplex because we share the kitchen. Owner is quiet professional female, self-employed with tech-industry business; also affiliated with WSU.
$X,XXX month plus a share of electric, propane, and water - approx. $150-$200/month average depending on you. Home has heat pump so cost of heating is very reasonable. Also has air conditioning, although it is doubtful that you'll want to use it since we usually have a nice light breeze during the rare but legendary NW hot spells.

- Beach Club (private club with indoor & outdoor pools; workout room with weights, eliptical trainers, treadmills, ++; tennis court; ++) eligibility included... may be able to provide membership for n/c but you may also need to purchase a separate membership (~ $450/yr); it depends on how the rules are interpreted.

- Lease an option.
- Security deposit and references required.

- You are welcome to help maintain the garden but that is certainly not expected.

- Conveniently located in Port Ludlow, Washington, approximately a 5-10 minute walk to the Beach Club or Port Ludlow Marina; 2 minutes by car. Port Ludlow is on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula, approx. a 15 minute drive north of the Hood Canal bridge, and about half way between Port Townsend and Poulsbo. Commute to to either is about a half hour.
- High bank waterfront at the mouth of Ludlow Bay, looking east across the entry to Hood Canal and Admiralty Inlet. Listen to the wakes on the shoreline. Beach access from the public areas down by the Beach Club and Admiralty Condos.
- Views of Mt. Baker, the Cascades, and basically all the comings and goings in the shipping lanes and the bay; sailboats, submarines, cruise ships, various watercraft and float planes. Most of the time the migratory birds have the area all to themselves, but occasionally we also have parades of boats or float planes, and during cruising season, the cruise ships glitter off in the distance at dawn and dusk.
- Lots of Wildlife. Eagles cruise the shoreline regularly for about half the year. Ducks and other migrants congregate out front, in the near shore area where otters and herons also hunt. Otters, porpoise, and very occasionally gray whales.
- Comfortable home. Usually 5-10 degrees cooler in the summer, and 5-10 degrees warmer in the winter. That comparison is to the Poulsbo area, but is also true for almost anywhere inland or without the summer east breeze. Large enough so that we both have lots of private space. Nice floorplan.
- Light & Bright. Big sky view. Lots of light even on dark winter days. Great weather watching. The view is always changing, and even though the bright sunny days are our favorites, sometimes the clouds and water are the most fascinating on otherwise dark days.
- No steps. Front porch & entry, attached garage, laundry, kitchen, living, dining, and master suite all on one level.
Imagine waking up, or falling asleep to this view. This is a sunset. The Cascades are backlit at dawn. During the winter, they glow at sunset (especially Mt Baker). Moonrise is pretty spectacular too.

Master bath is divided into two areas - main area is mirrored with dual sinks and access to walk-in closet and tons of storage. . You can see the door to the large walk in closet and a closet-sized large linen (or sundry) area behind the mirrored doors.
The second area of the master bath is ensuite, and includes the tub / shower and the toilet behind a privacy door. This photo is not exciting but we thought you might like to see a preview of this area.
Photo taken while standing in the doorway to the master; door to guest half-bath is to the right, tiled area is the entry; first opening to the left is to the living room; second set of openings are to the kitchen and laundry room; propane stove in dining room is on the far wall

Photo of part of one side of the galley style kitchen. Dual fuel stove has five burners and two ovens. Stove top is propane; ovens are electric. One oven is standard sized, the other is narrower and is great for side dishes. Both sides of the kitchen have undercounter lights, in addition to recessed lighting on the ceiling.
Looking into the kitchen from the dining room. Open floor plan means that you are never stuck in the kitchen by yourself. Tons of storage.

Living room
Spacious living room with wood burning fireplace for chilly evenings.
The laundry room is located between the kitchen and the garage. This area includes a walk in pantry and additional storage.
It is so quiet here that you can hear the kayaker's conversations. From about December to June bald eagles go back and forth all day long. Some apparently have a taste for waterbirds and that is really strange to watch. In the summer, you can also watch the dinghy outings and all the boats that come and go from the marina.
This sailboat anchored a wee bit too close to shore. You never know what you are going to see.
Every Thursday and Saturday you have a front row seat for the Etchell sailboat races. They look like white birds coming out of Ludlow bay.
The sky is always changing - the house is light and bright even on dark days.

Series of six photos of a migrating gray whale close to shore; taken from the main level balcony. Photo 1 of 6.
It is unusual to see gray whales in Ludlow Bay; they are normally reported only once a year at most. The only cetaceans regularly seen here are the shy harbor porpoise during the summer. Photo 2 of 6.
Notice that the whale has been circling and stirring up mud for the first three photos. Sometimes you see the whale's body, and sometimes you see one flipper or part of it's fluke. This is very shallow water, close to shore. Photo 3 of 6.
Gray whales have baleen instead of teeth. They feed on small crustaceans such as amphipods and tube worms found in mud.
Photo 4 of 6.
Gray whale in front of house in April, moving into Ludlow Bay. Their normal feeding pattern is to circle and stir up the mud, then move down the shore and repeat. Photo 5 of 6.
Gray whale in front of house in April, slowly travelling south into Ludlow Bay. Notice the mud stirred up behind the whale. In this photo, the whale was coming to the surface to breathe. Although I was in the right place at exactly the right time to see this (and a lot more), I wasn't as lucky with the batteries in the camera, and thus this is the last photo in this sequence. The American Cetacean Society gray whale fact sheet nicely describes gray whales. Photo 6 of 6.
Do you want to live on the waterfront, in a quiet, private, upscale home with spectacular views, but don't want the responsibility of owning a house? Is your current home too hot in the summer or too cool in the winter? Is a gourmet kitchen or a walk-in closet on your must-have list? Do you want to live in Port Ludlow but have not been able to find an affordable rental with both a view and a garage? Are you tired of multiple level homes; would you prefer no steps, with everything, from the driveway and entry on in, on one level? If you answered no to all these questions, then you're probably here only because you want to see photos of the unusual gray whale.
